There are car selling solutions across all social media platforms. The key is to match the platform to your audience. The information below is mostly derived from Jumper Media, a social media agency, and its focus is on how cars are being sold using Instagram, Facebook’s sexy cousin. However, I think the general tactics can go with either FB or Instagram; the key is matching up your audience.

For instance, expecting intensive upfront research is the norm for any big-ticket purchase. However, the research that hits the mark for a prospective buyer of a 4-wheel drive SUV is different than a buyer of a luxury sedan.

One interesting takeaway is that we think research means engine size and MPG, but their research shows that visual content may be even more important for creating a bond with prospective buyers:

  • 52% of buyers watch videos to assess car performance and to get an idea of how the car will drive
  • Like their toes in the sand, 41% of Instagram users share a photo of the car they just purchased
